It was actually a bit of a surprise when Apple introduced USB-C to the iPad Pro. This is because Apple has long reckoned on the use of personal anchorages and lines way back when the first iPhone and iPad launched. Still, for some reason, USB-C has not been brought over to the iPhone, at least not until now.
This is thanks to robotics mastermind Ken Pillonel who created what he claims is the world’s first USB-C iPhone. Principally what he did was he took piecemeal the iPhone X and made some variations and removed the Lightning harborage and replaced it with USB-C, therefore allowing him to use USB-C lines to charge his device.
According to Pillonel, “ This is it. I ’ve eventually erected the World’s First iPhone with a USB Type-C harborage. It supports charging and data transfers. The first part was about getting the electronics to work. Also the coming step was to reverse- mastermind the Apple C94 connector and make my own PCB with a womanish USB C harborage.”
It does n’t sound like a particularly easy mod to pull off so unless you know what you ’re doing and are willing to risk ruining your iPhone and voiding its bond, it’s presumably stylish just to respect Pillonel’s work rather than essay it yourself. That being said, the EU did preliminarily state that they plan to make it obligatory for companies to borrow USB-C as the charging standard.
This is basically aimed at Apple as they’re enough much the only company that continues to contend on using their own personal connections, but whether or not they ’ll delve into the EU’s demands remains to be seen.
